About the job

As a Senior Data Scientist at Rubyx, you will have the unique opportunity to shape the future of the lending industry in emerging economies. With access to unprecedented amounts of data, your work will be instrumental in identifying trends, patterns, and insights that can be leveraged to drive innovation and growth.

Working within a small, fast-growing team, you will be responsible for taking ownership of a wide range of projects and initiatives, each of which will require a deep understanding of the data, the industry, and the needs of our customers. You will need to be a self-starter, able to take initiative and work independently to drive results, while also collaborating closely with colleagues from other teams.

Your role will involve developing advanced data models and algorithms, analyzing complex data sets, and using machine learning and other statistical techniques to uncover hidden insights and identify new opportunities. You will need to be comfortable working with large data sets and complex data structures, and have a deep understanding of statistical analysis, data mining, and predictive modeling.

You will also be responsible for ensuring that the data solutions you develop are production-ready. This will involve working closely with Data Engineers to ensure that data pipelines are optimized for performance, scalability, and reliability. You will need to have a deep understanding of data engineering best practices to ensure that the solutions you develop are robust, scalable, and maintainable. This will involve collaborating on data infrastructure design, database schema design, and data modeling, among other tasks.

In addition, you will need to be skilled in code versioning and deployment, as well as continuous integration and deployment pipelines. You will be responsible for ensuring that your data solutions are properly tested, documented, and deployed, and that they are integrated seamlessly with other components of the overall system architecture.

Finally, effective communication skills are essential for this role. You must be able to effectively present complex data and insights to various stakeholders, including executives, technical teams, business partners, and other relevant audiences. You will need to be able to translate technical insights into actionable recommendations and strategies, and be comfortable working in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.

Job location

The job is expected to be based in Brussels and being primarily remote. Other locations may also be considered depending on the candidate's qualifications and experience (preferred Dakar, Senegal).

• At least 5 years of relevant experience in data science, machine learning, or a related field.
• Strong expertise in developing advanced data models and algorithms, analyzing complex data sets, and using machine learning and statistical techniques to uncover hidden insights and identify new opportunities.
• Deep understanding of statistical analysis, data mining, and predictive modeling.
• Strong proficiency in Python, R and SQL.
• Comfortable working with large data sets and complex data structures.
• Demonstrated experience in developing production-ready data solutions, including working closely with Data Engineers to optimize data pipelines for performance, scalability, and reliability.
• Skilled in code versioning and deployment, as well as continuous integration and deployment pipelines.
• Strong communication skills to effectively present complex data and insights to various stakeholders, including executives, technical teams, business partners, and other relevant audiences.
• Ability to translate technical insights into actionable recommendations and strategies.
• Comfortable working in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and taking ownership of a wide range of projects and initiatives.
• Proficient in cloud environments, preferably Google Cloud Platform (GCP).
• Domain knowledge in fintech and lending in emerging economies, including credit scoring and risk modelling, is a plus.
• Proficient in English, with a good level in French.
